Realistic Torches — Flint-and-Steel Lighting with Configurable Burn Time (Fabric)
Torches no longer auto-ignite: place them unlit, light them with flint and steel, and manage burn duration and weather-based extinguishing. Fabric-only, requires Fabric API and server install.
Realistic Torches overhauls vanilla torch behavior to make lighting and maintenance part of gameplay. When you place a torch it will be unlit; use flint and steel to ignite it. By default a lit torch burns for three minutes before going out, and you can extinguish a torch early by right-clicking it. Rain will put out torches whose tops are exposed. The changes apply to both standard torches and soul torches; redstone torches are not affected.
Burn time is configurable via a datapack. Create a datapack in your world’s datapacks folder and add the configuration JSON supplied with the mod to adjust how long torches remain lit (for example, set them to 45 seconds). If you provide custom values, include the required keys in the file; otherwise the mod falls back to the three-minute default.
This addon is Fabric-only and requires the Fabric API jar on both client and server. The mod must be installed on players’ clients and on the server for consistent behavior in multiplayer.
