Garfield Kart Mocks Mario After Mario Kart Tour Shutdown Announcement
Garfield Kart's official X account taunted Nintendo over the planned shutdown of Mario Kart Tour, claiming its game "will not randomly kill your game license." Mario Kart Tour is set to close on September 29, while console entries continue to receive updates.
The social account for Garfield Kart: Furious Racing and Garfield Kart 2: All You Can Drift took aim at Nintendo after the company announced it will sunset Mario Kart Tour this fall. On X, Garfield Kart declared itself superior to Mario Kart because it "will not randomly kill your game license."
While Garfield Kart remains far behind Mario Kart in popularity, the franchises share a cinematic link: Chris Pratt voices Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its sequel and also portrayed Garfield in the most recent animated film.
Mario Kart Tour will shut down on September 29, seven years after Nintendo began its push into mobile; most of Nintendo’s other mobile titles from that era have also closed, with exceptions like Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes and Pikmin Bloom. On consoles, Mario Kart World is currently the best-selling game on Switch 2 and received a new update earlier this month that added two Knockout Tour routes, with at least six more planned for future updates.
