Quantic Dream staff warn Star Wars: Eclipse is understaffed after layoffs
Quantic Dream’s first open-world Star Wars game is facing staffing problems after the studio cancelled another project and laid off employees. Staff say the cuts risk Eclipse’s completion and staged a strike during a Lucasfilm visit.
Star Wars: Eclipse, first shown in a cinematic trailer in 2021, has had little public news since a brief update from Quantic Dream CEO David Cage last year: "Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future." The studio also cancelled a live-service MOBA, Spellcaster Chronicles, in May, and 115 people who worked on it were laid off. French outlet Gamekult reports Quantic Dream employees say those staff are needed on Eclipse and that the cuts will harm its chances of being finished. Workers even staged a strike during a Lucasfilm visit. A developer identified as Jules told reporters via Google Translate the action was intended to save the project and argued, "We're understaffed... We could manage to release it with 115 additional people." Quantic Dream has been owned by NetEase since 2022.
