Carcass Clad dials back scripted story but retains worldbuilding
Wrong Organ's next game, Carcass Clad, moves away from the heavy scripted narrative of Mouthwashing while keeping worldbuilding and a new setting. Developer Jeffrey Tomec says the team is balancing story with multiplayer design around the game's tank mechanic.
After the narrative horror Mouthwashing, Wrong Organ is shifting gears: Carcass Clad is a roguelike co-op tank simulator set in a city gone deeply wrong, and scripted narrative is "on the back burner for sure," developer Jeffrey Tomec told me. The studio is still committed to story and worldbuilding, but is trying to find the right balance. "Everything in this game comes back to the tank, and how you feel in it, and that is supposed to express something," Tomec said. He warned that multiplayer players are often in a different headspace—an issue the writer says has burned them in games like Destiny, Redfall and System Shock 2's co-op—and added, "We haven't fully discovered exactly how much we can push it... We strongly believe that narrative shouldn't feel forced. You need to understand where someone wants to read... Because we're a writing company, we put writing in our games."
