Signs Mount That Nagoshi Studios' Gang of Dragon May Be Dead
Fans had hoped a buyer might save Nagoshi Studios' debut, Gang of Dragon, but new print and social-media details this week paint a bleak picture for the studio's future.
Nagoshi Studios, led by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, has looked precarious since its debut title, Gang of Dragon, was revealed at The Game Awards. Reports that primary funder NetEase was pulling back, the studio’s YouTube channel briefly disappearing and reappearing, and its website going offline have fueled concern. The 40th anniversary issue of Famitsu, noted by Automaton, lists congratulatory messages from creators including Nagoshi—who is listed merely as “game creator” rather than tied to his eponymous studio. Popular account Wario64 also flagged something unusual in co‑founder and director Daisuke Sato’s Twitter profile. Taken together, these small details suggest the studio’s situation may be dire.
