Luna Abyss dev team laid off less than a month after launch
Nine developers who made bullet-hell FPS Luna Abyss were made redundant weeks after the game’s May 21 release. Critical praise didn’t translate to strong player numbers, and the studio’s CEO has asked potential employers to get in touch.
Kwalee Labs CEO Hollie Emery announced on LinkedIn on June 16 that the entire team behind Luna Abyss had been laid off. “The entire team has been made redundant; a decision that was completely outside of our control,” she wrote, adding that “the entire team is available for work as of today … Thanks for your endless support, and whilst we’re sad it ended like this—I have no doubt that our team will go on to make amazing things.” The post lists nine affected developers and asks anyone with employer contacts to reach out. Luna Abyss, released May 21, received positive notice—PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon said he was “already hoping for more of its kind”—but sales appear limited: SteamDB shows 43 concurrent players at the time of writing and a peak of 317. The genre-mixing bullet-hell FPS had less than a month to find an audience.
