
Developers stunned as Bungie layoffs reportedly wipe out most of Destiny 2 team
Many of those let go are responding with dignity amid what colleagues call a huge loss of talent. The layoffs reportedly affected dozens of core Destiny 2 staff and contractors.
Following Destiny 2’s last major update and long-running reports of cuts, Sony and Bungie announced a “reduction in force” that reportedly includes most people working on Destiny 2, several on the Marathon team, and external contractors. Sony has not given exact figures; a WARN notice, spotted by GameFile’s Stephen Totilo, lists 292 positions affected in Washington, where Bungie is headquartered. That number excludes external and remote workers, so the true total is likely higher. The timing—on the same day GTA 6 pre-orders opened—has been widely noted, and reactions across the hobby range from anger to sadness, with even a White House tweet drawing attention.
