Slitherine buys Blood Bowl videogame rights while Cyanide remains on development
Slitherine has acquired publishing rights to the Blood Bowl videogame series from insolvent Nacon, while Cyanide will continue developing updates and the planned Warhammer Blood Bowl rerelease. The move appears to revive the project's prospects after Nacon's troubles.
Slitherine, publisher of Panzer Corps and Warhammer 40,000 titles such as Battlesector and Gladius, has acquired the publishing rights to the Blood Bowl videogame series. The rights previously belonged to Nacon, which filed for insolvency in February—an event that coincided with the collapse of Greedfall developer Spiders and put Blood Bowl 3’s future in doubt. Cyanide had announced plans to update the game to match the tabletop rules refresh and rerelease it as Warhammer Blood Bowl; that plan was delayed but now looks set to proceed under Slitherine. “We have enormous respect for what Cyanide has built over the years,” Slitherine’s director of publishing Marco Minoli said. “We’re excited to continue working closely with the team to support and grow the series together with its passionate community.” “We are delighted to partner with Slitherine to ensure the future of the Blood Bowl videogames,” Cyanide CEO Patrick Pligersdorffer added. Blood Bowl 3 launched in a rough state—plagued by bugs, contentious microtransactions and a live-service focus—and, despite fixes, menu issues persist and many players have returned to Blood Bowl 2 for a smoother experience.
