Commodore says privacy-first Callback flip phone delivered its ‘biggest week’
Commodore’s new Callback flip phone—designed to block social media at the system level but still offering WhatsApp—matched the Commodore 64 Ultimate’s first-month sales in three days, the company says.
In 2025 retro YouTuber Chris “Peri Fractic” Simpson bought Commodore, reassembled key executives and steered the brand into hardware. That effort produced the Commodore 64 Ultimate, the slimline 64C and a range of merch — and, last month, the Callback, a flip phone that blocks social media at the system level. It has no email client or browser but includes retro games like Snake, plus WhatsApp and a maps app. Announced at $500, its price was cut by $100 before release. On X, Commodore said: “In just three days, Callback matched the first month's sales of the Commodore 64 Ultimate. Our biggest launch. Our biggest week. The biggest moment in Commodore's modern history!” The Callback blocks apps including X, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, Kick, Twitch, Roblox and Discord. As a C64 kid who removed Twitter years ago, I get the appeal — but I’d still miss having Discord and an email app for tickets.
