Former Tekken Boss: Miyazaki's FromSoftware Career Is Remarkable but Underappreciated
Katsuhiro Harada says the Souls series "was the result of everything Miyazaki and his team had built up through their previous titles," and that Miyazaki's career deserves more credit than the breakout sales of those games alone.
Katsuhiro Harada recently praised FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki on X, calling him a "rather unique, yet extremely serious game developer." Harada described Miyazaki's career as "remarkable," but said it isn’t fully appreciated because attention often focuses on the Souls games’ commercial breakout rather than the gradual development of the team behind them. Harada noted Miyazaki’s unusual path into games: after working as an Oracle account manager, Miyazaki decided at 29 to pursue game development after discovering Ico, and FromSoftware was one of the few companies to give him a chance. "It's remarkable that someone who wasn't even a game developer during the dawn of the polygon era eventually became one of Japan's most representative game creators," Harada said, calling his career path exceptionally unusual compared to peers who had early technological advantages.
