Diablo 4’s Mythic Uniques 3.0 Overhaul Draws Player Backlash
Season 14’s Mythic Uniques 3.0 was meant to expand endgame options, but players report it has added frustrating randomness and weakened formerly top Mythics. Blizzard says the change is intended to be permanent.
Season of Death Awakening, which launched June 30, introduced Mythic Uniques 3.0—a permanent rework that lets any of Diablo 4’s Unique items be found or converted into stronger Mythic versions. The aim was to broaden endgame build options, but early feedback has been negative. The update increased randomness: Iconic Mythics such as The Grandfather and Heir of Perdition are reportedly often weaker than before, and converting a Unique into a Mythic with the Horadric Cube can yield a different item than the one sacrificed. Players also say Mythics feel rarer, with lower drop rates and the removal of the ability to craft specific Mythics. Taken together, acquiring usable Mythics now feels largely out of players’ control. Blizzard acknowledged the change would be controversial and said it was trying to "split the difference" in a GameSpot interview before launch.
