Sony's Fight Stick Post Draws Backlash After PlayStation Disc Decision
After announcing it will end support for physical PlayStation discs at the start of 2028, Sony tried to shift the conversation by promoting a new FlexStrike wireless fight stick. The post was met largely with anger and satire from fans still upset about the disc decision.
At the start of July Sony announced it will end support for physical PlayStation game discs beginning in early 2028. The company remained largely quiet on social media for the week that followed, then posted about the FlexStrike wireless fight stick. Normally the product might have been received on its own merits, but the post drew widespread backlash as many fans continued to express anger and satire over the disc announcement—some responses were too profane to reproduce. Companies including iam8bit and GameFly publicly voiced disappointment, and Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott suggested Sony made the decision to exert greater control over pricing and distribution.
