Louis Rossmann sues Samsung after RMA dispute over failed 4TB 990 Pro SSD
Tech YouTuber and repair-shop owner Louis Rossmann says Samsung refused to replace a failed 4TB 990 Pro SSD that was still under warranty, even as the drive's price has jumped from $300 to $949. Responses to his RMA request have become so contentious that he is taking the company to court.
Louis Rossmann, the tech YouTuber, repair-shop owner and consumer-rights advocate, says a 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD he bought from Best Buy about a year ago stopped responding while in a RAID‑1 array. Because the drive was still under warranty he filed an RMA with Samsung, but ran into problems — including discovering he'd initially contacted Samsung Canada’s B2B support rather than the U.S. desk. He resubmitted the required details but could not immediately provide a requested photo of the drive because it remained installed in his PC while he was at work. Rossmann also noted the model’s price has roughly quadrupled since his purchase. According to him, Samsung’s handling of the claim has been so poor that it has led to a lawsuit.
