Commodore unveils Callback flip phone that blocks social media
The Commodore Callback is a flip phone that includes some smartphone apps like WhatsApp and maps but blocks social media at the system level.
Commodore’s next product isn’t a gaming device. The brand, acquired in 2025 by Christian “Peri Fractic” Simpson, last year announced an FPGA recreation of the Commodore 64 called the Commodore 64 Ultimate. Its second product is the Callback, a flip phone meant to sit “between” smartphones and dumb phones: “The smartphone is still too smart. And dumb phones are, well, too dumb. So we built a bridge between. That’s the Callback.”
The Callback includes apps such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Google Maps and Uber, plus a music player and a 48MP Sony rear camera. Its built-in DAC supports HD audio and lossless files; the phone ships with HQ IEM earphones and ringtones based on Commodore 64 SID music. Social media apps are “blocked at the system level.” An FAQ asks if the block can be disabled: “No. Callback is built around these blocks. That is the point.”
