Weeks After Launching on Game Pass, Dev Lays Off Luna Abyss Team
Kwalee Labs released horror shooter Luna Abyss late last month with a day-one Game Pass release, but CEO Hollie Emery says she and eight other team members were laid off days later. Emery posted on LinkedIn that the entire Luna Abyss team was made redundant and are now available for work.
Late last month Kwalee Labs launched first-person horror shooter Luna Abyss on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with a day-one release on Game Pass. Despite positive critical reception, CEO and production director Hollie Emery announced on her LinkedIn page that she and eight other members of the Luna Abyss development team were laid off earlier this week for undisclosed reasons. "Unfortunately as of yesterday, the entire team has been made redundant; a decision that was completely outside of our control," Emery wrote, adding the team "are available for work as of today." She said the team was "enamoured by the love and support" the game received. According to GameSpot's sister site Metacritic, Luna Abyss had an 81% score; its Steam peak near launch was 18,597 concurrent players, with a recent 24-hour peak of 310. Luna Abyss puts players in control of Fawkes, a woman imprisoned on the moon Luna, tasked with excavating and exploring deep passages while monitored by her A.I. prison guard, Aylin.
