Report: Microsoft planned to 'sunset or split' Ninja Theory before Senua reveal
Senua was unveiled at Xbox’s summer showcase less than two weeks ago, but a report claims Microsoft had already decided to close or sell Ninja Theory when the game was announced. The studio has also been linked to wider closure rumours involving other Microsoft-owned teams.
Senua was announced at Xbox’s summer showcase about 10 days ago. Since then, reports have suggested Ninja Theory — developer of the Hellblade series — could close, alongside fellow Xbox studios Compulsion Games and Double Fine.
Game File, citing a source familiar with Microsoft’s operations, claims Microsoft had already planned to “sunset or split” Ninja Theory by the time Senua was revealed. “The thinking was that the promise of a newly announced game would help draw investor interest in the studio,” the report says.
Game File adds it’s unclear whether anyone at Ninja Theory knew about the plan.
