Battlefield 6 Nearly Switched XP Boosts to In‑Game Time — Twice, Then Reversed
A June 30 update briefly showed XP boosts would count down based on in‑game time rather than real time, but Battlefield Studios called the change an “error” and rolled it back. Confusingly, this is the second time the exact same mistake has happened in three weeks.
As part of Battlefield 6’s June 30 update — the patch that overhauled gunplay and added a new mode — players were greeted by a surprising message: “XP Boost Update: Now Based On In‑Game Time.” Since launch, XP boosters have ticked down in real time, often eating into double‑XP during matchmaking, loads, or short breaks. The posted explanation said the game would track what percentage of a match an XP booster was active and multiply the final Match Bonus XP accordingly, and that if a booster expired mid‑match the bonus would be applied proportionally. Shortly after, developer Battlefield Studios said the change was an “error” and reverted it. It’s the second time the exact same mistake has occurred in three weeks.
